Online English Conversation Program Just for Women!

If you can speak English at an intermediate or advanced level, join us for English conversation practice where you can improve your English skills in a safe, women-only environment.

How to Determine If You Are Ready for Our Programs
You will get the most from our conversation sessions if you are an intermediate or advanced English speaker and can answer Yes to the following questions:

  • Vocabulary: Do you feel comfortable using a variety of English words and phrases in different topics?

  • Speaking: Can you participate in English conversations on familiar subjects and express your opinions?

  • Listening: Do you understand the main ideas in standard spoken English, and can you follow discussions when other people are speaking English?

  • Comfort Level: Are you ready to speak English in longer and more complex conversations?

If you cannot answer Yes to the questions above, we encourage you to find a local or online ESL program and come back to Ladies Let's Talk when you are better prepared to participate in our conversation sessions. Thank you!

  • Conversations are held on Zoom on Thursdays at 7pm Central time and Fridays at 10:30 am Central time

  • Learners may attend one session per week: either Thursday or Friday.

  • Join other women learners and volunteers to speak in small groups about interesting topics.

  • Learn new vocabulary and idioms.

  • Have fun in a welcoming, supportive environment!

Requirements

  • Must be a woman who is registered as a learner with Ladies Let’s Talk.

  • Must live in the United States.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must have a U.S. cell phone number for sending/receiving text messages with Ladies Let’s Talk.

  • Must have access to a computer, tablet, or phone to join a Zoom call. We will send you the Zoom link.

  • Must be willing to turn your video ON during the Zoom call. We need to see all of our wonderful learners on the call.

  • Here are some common questions to make sure our English Conversation Program is right for you.

    Is LLT’s English Conversation Program an English class?
    No, our program is not an English class. We are a women-only conversation group that meets on Zoom where learners can practice English in a small group with a volunteer English speaker. All conversations are unscripted and help you practice listening to and speaking in English.

    Where do the English conversation sessions meet?
    Our conversation practice sessions meet online using Zoom.

    Can men attend English conversation sessions?
    No. Our sessions are for women only. To make our sessions comfortable for all learners, we ask that men are not seen on the Zoom screen nor in the background. Children are welcome to be in the room, but we ask that they are quiet.

    Where do women live who attend conversation sessions?
    Ladies Let's Talk is headquartered in Austin, Texas, but our learners and volunteers live all over the United States. Our learners come from all over the world, including countries in Central and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa!

    Can women who live outside of the United States attend LLT’s English Conversation Program?
    We would love to serve everyone, but because we have such a long waiting list, we reserve our conversation sessions for women refugees and immigrants who currently live in the United States.

    What level of English do I need to have to join the English Conversation Program sessions?
    To get the most from our program, you should be able to speak intermediate to advanced English.

    What do we talk about?
    Every week we discuss a different topic that is interesting to women. We talk about everyday things like family, jobs, or American culture and how to connect with your new American community. We often ask you to talk about your native culture. Our volunteers want to learn about you and your home country!

    What happens in a conversation session?
    We begin every session with introductions. We ask you to tell us your name and your home country. We will give a short presentation that may include a new vocabulary word, idiom, or idea. We then assign you to a Zoom breakout room where you will get to know a volunteer and a few other learners to discuss the topic of the week.

    Our learners love to ask questions, practice new words, and get to know other English learners. We encourage our learners to talk as much as possible and not be afraid of making mistakes. We are all here to learn!

    When do the conversations sessions take place?
    We meet Thursday evenings from 7-8:30pm Central Time and Friday mornings from 10:30am-12pm Central Time. The schedule for the next conversation practice sessions are posted at the top of this page.

    How do I get the Zoom link?
    Once you register with LLT, we will send you a text message about the next conversation session. You will need to follow the instructions on the text to receive the Zoom link.
